Quotes to Consider
This week's quotes come from Pedro Noguera's keynote presentation at the National Association of Secondary School Principals conference in San Diego. Dr. Noguera is an expert in the area of equity in education and frequently speaks nationally and on television regarding education excellence through equity. "The best teachers teach the way the students learn, not by forcing them to learn the way we teach." "America is changing. As educators, we have to work within our constraints and do our very best." "The best schools build a culture where it is cool to be smart." |

Teach Like a Pirate Book Study
In February our Teach Like a Pirate book study concluded with a Skype conversation with author Dave Burgess. Although the video technology failed on our end, it was an opportunity for our participants to connect with a nationally-recognized author. Participants completed the book over the course of 4 months and met monthly to reflect on the content. A number of the conversations focused heavily on how we bring and display our passion for learning in the classroom as well as teaching strategies for building active and engaged learning environments. Kudos to the book study group for helping build collaborative conversations around teaching and learning at LHS.
